How You Can Decrease Your Risk - Protection Tips for Sellers
PayPal provides ongoing education and tips on fraud prevention and seller safety. Before you sell, be aware of the ways to make your transactions as safe as possible, and learn how to recognise high risk transactions.
Seller Tips: Decrease Fraud Risk
- Know your buyers: Do they have a verified account from one of the 190 PayPal approved markets?
- Insure your package: Protect your item against loss or non-delivery claims
- Track your package: Maintain proof and provide the buyer with the tracking number
- Watch for address inconsistencies: Different postage and billing addresses are fairly common; but in unusual cases, this could be a fraud indicator
- Beware of unusual buyer requests: rush deliveries, partial payments, etc.
Seller Tips: Reduce Buyer Disputes and Claims
- Provide clear and detailed descriptions: Give a detailed description of your item
- Respond to buyer inquiries promptly: Let them know you are listening
- Provide shipping charges up-front, including insurance options against lost items.
- Give realistic delivery times: overestimate delivery time to avoid risk of “late” delivery. Remind buyers additional time may be required for transit or customs clearance for international shipments
- Compromise: Offer a partial refund to stop a buyer from filing a claim or chargeback
- Encourage mediation: Attempt to resolve differences directly with the buyer
